Symposium Feedback: Tech Savvy |
“AI will be the next big trend for the electronics industry. The application of AI can improve our everyday lives. AI products are getting more and more popular and different AI products can be applied to schools, companies and households. For example, AI can predict when a home appliance will be out of order. This is my first time attending the Autumn Electronics Fair as one of the speakers for the Symposium on Innovation & Technology. The fair brings together large corporations, SMEs and startups and provides an ideal platform for them to look for co-operation opportunities. The electronics industry is changing fast in order to meet the needs and tastes of consumers. I think new ideas from startups and SMEs will drive the development of the electronics industry." David Chow, Partner/Hong Kong Leader, Global Business Services, IBM China/Hong Kong Limited, Hong Kong |
Many innovations that we take for granted came from startups! Explore the next generation of bright ideas at the Startup Zone, featuring 110 startups from the Chinese mainland, Denmark, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and the US as they define the future of Smart Homes, Robotics A.I., IoT, Big Data, e-Health/Wearable and more. |

Insights from Startup Experts |
“This is one of the biggest electronics fairs in Asia that I have visited and there are many activities running in parallel. At the Startup Zone, there are some health/wellness startups that caught my eye. They are Ambi, Marvoto and Aurai. Ambi is world’s first AI powered air conditioner controller. Marvoto is hardware and app focusing on hand-held 3D ultrasound application. It provides individuals a much easier way to scan and check the inside body at home. Aurai is water-propelled eye massager with cool and warm compresses that helps relieving unpleasant conditions from digital eye strain. The Media Pitch day co-organised by Letstartup.hk x Underdogs is amazing. We have seen many pitching events inviting Venture Capital to be the judges but for this time all judges are from media side, so this is the good opportunity for all startups to generate more exposure with international journalists and get the feedback directly to improve their products.” Oranuch Lerdsuwankij, Co-Founder and CEO, Techsauce.co, Thailand |

Hear What Startups Say |
“Established two years ago, our company is exhibiting in the Startup Zone at the Autumn Electronics Fair for the first time to showcase the prototype of our Aspara-branded hydroponic smart grower. This smart grower allows people to grow any vegetables anywhere, anytime. It has incorporated three patent-pending technologies, including a LED grow light system, automatic watering system, and sensor and control system. We also offer seed capsules, so people only need to add water and start growing vegetables. The dedicated app can monitor the smart grower. So far, we have made more than 100 new contacts from Europe and the US. We expect the number of new contacts to exceed 500. Many buyers are interested in this smart grower and consider buying it. The Startup zone provides a cost-effective platform for us to introduce this new product. In addition, we have the chance to take part in different programmes such as Media Pitch Day, media breakfast meeting and Smart Startup Launch, helping us to increase our exposure.” Carmen Lau, Assistant Marketing Manager, Growgreen Limited, Hong Kong |
“To be launched in January 2019, Headsup is a module that fits into any helmet and makes it smart and connected. Headsup has five distinct features including GPS navigation, music entertainment, group chat, smart assistant for providing important information to riders, and rear lighting for ensuring night safety. To look for investors and distributors, we are exhibiting this new product at the Startup zone. Startups can’t afford a big booth and the Startup zone provides an economical means for us to introduce this new product to international buyers. The zone has attracted a lot of people looking for startups especially hardware companies. We have met with large distributors from Australia, Chile, the Philippines and the US who are keen to take our products to their markets. More than 70 buyers have already placed trial orders. We expect that we can make 300 new contacts through the four-day fair.” Sunder Jagannathan, Chief Executive Officer, Revsmart Wearable HK Co., Ltd., Hong Kong |

“The HKTDC Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition) showcases the latest in cutting-edge technology, spanning across consumer and industrial products. Split into different halls and zones, HKTDC has brought speakers from all over the world to share their thoughts and experiences in topics like Artificial Intelligence and Startups, with much more to come as the days go by. The fair also shows the current trends in the electronics world, and we can see a large number of audio solutions being showcased, especially wireless earphones. While audio solutions are a large part of the consumer technology zone, there’s plenty of other products to whet the appetites of attendees, even those who are looking more for appliances than devices. You can’t go wrong just perusing each zone to find interesting products like the DASQI A8, the world’s first smartwatch that features dual cameras to take selfies or sneaky photos. While the AR HUD which projects an augmented HUD onto your car’s windscreen puts you into the shoes of a cheesy cyberpunk movie protagonist.” Nixon Ng, Writer, CHIP Malaysia, Malaysia |

“MOPIC offers ‘everything about 3D’ that enables people to enjoy 3D images anywhere, anytime. Currently, our products are sold on the Chinese mainland and in India, Japan, Korea, South Africa and Nigeria. This is our first-time participation in the Autumn Electronics Fair to promote Snap3D and to look for new distributors. Snap3D is a 3D/VR viewer case that allows users to see 3D media without glasses. The back of Snap3D includes a 3D lens, while the sides and front offer sturdy phone protection. We have received good responses at the fair and buyers are keen to know more about Snap3D. Up till now, we have found a potential distributor from Singapore.” Kelly Kang, Overseas Sales Manager, MOPIC Co., Ltd., Korea |
Buyer’s Feedback |
“In business for 14 years, our company supplies security and safety products to law enforcement agencies and corporate customers in Australia and Asia. This is my first time visiting the Autumn Electronics Fair. Through the HKTDC business matching service, I have identified six potential suppliers of alcohol analysers and advanced driver-assistance systems and bought samples from them for laboratory testing. If their quality can meet the Australian standard and their prices are reasonable, I’ll buy one container from each supplier after the fair. I have placed an order with my existing supplier from the Chinese mainland for US$200,000 worth of air quality products. I like the fair very much because I can find relevant products that can meet the needs of my customers.” Jaka Exstrada, Product Manager, Enforcepro Corporation Pty Ltd. Australia |
“Launched in 2010, Silicon Valley Robotics supports the innovation and commercialisation of robotics technologies. Currently, we support 300-plus robotics startups mostly in the Silicon Valley. I have made my first visit to the Autumn Electronics Fair to look for investment and partnership opportunities related to robotics technologies, sensor technologies, AI and interaction technologies. I am particularly interested in three robotics companies that produce delivery robots, humanoid robots and customer service robots. I will discuss with them on our investment. The fair is very well-organised.” Andra Keay, Managing Director, Silicon Valley Robotics, the US |

Insights from Speakers |
“The trend of advanced drive assistance systems (ADAS) is growing fast, providing added fuel to demand for radars, Lidars, cameras and ultrasonic sensors. With government initiatives and increasing awareness of the new generation consumers, ADAS is being upgraded continuously to meet safety concerns and customers’ needs. Sensor fusion technology will certainly improve the stability of ADAS. All kinds of senor data from road sensors and vehicle sensors can be consolidated to control the vehicle’s steering, braking and throttling. At the same time, the system provides audio and visual information through augmented reality Head Up Display (AR-HUD) to help drivers make the right decision. This will combine with the technology of Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping (SLAM) to create a new way of Human Machine Interface (HMI), making driving more comfortable, fun and safe. By integrated smart sensors with ADAS and software solutions, the driving experience will be very different while automated driving will be a step closer to reality.” Rongchun Lin, Product Director, Jiangcheng Technology, Chinese mainland |
“I am really excited to share ideas at the Forum here and pursue cooperation with your business. Blockchain technology is a major driver to reshape the way we interact with each other. A ledger with information, it provides a secure and transparent execution environment within the blockchain network where information is immutable, thus ensuring trust in the consensus algorithm. Blockchain can be integrated perfectly with sensors generating data and will facilitate Smart City initiatives with enhanced reliability in digital identity. A growing number of business corporations are exploring to use blockchain technology to ensure trusted data storage and improve operational efficiency. About 74% of major companies across seven countries are shifting their momentum to blockchain technology. Blockchain can create crypto token whereas companies may launch digital currency that serves as loyalty points to enrich customer experience. It will be used for financial transactions and beyond while enabling smart contracts and Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs). Blockchain is definitely here to stay and growth, bringing trust in data transactions.” Pavel Romanenko, NKF Media, Germany |
